The start of a new year holds the promise of a fresh start and the hope for great things to come. This year, don’t just sit back and wait for your dreams to come true. All it takes is a little drive, and the perfect place to find it is behind the wheel of your dream car. This year, it’s easier than ever to “own your drive” with the all-new Kia Niro arriving in the first quarter of 2017.

‘Un-hybrid’ driving experience

Kia is redefining the crossover and hybrid-electric vehicle with the Niro’s bold style and exceptional fuel economy--up to an EPA-estimated 50 combined mpg.* However, Kia test drivers recorded a record-setting 76.6 mpg in the Niro during a recent cross-country road trip, earning the official Guinness World Record® title for the lowest fuel consumption driving across the USA from coast to coast (hybrid car).

139 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque are transmitted through a new 6-speed dual clutch automatic transmission that boosts efficiency while creating smooth, seamless acceleration and deceleration. The result is a driving experience that doesn’t feel like other hybrids. Electric power is provided by a lightweight lithium ion polymer battery located under the rear seat. This high-voltage battery is both power- and energy-dense, allowing it to be smaller and lighter than other hybrid batteries. This in turn allows the gasoline engine to be downsized to further maximize fuel efficiency and reduce emissions.

Advanced hybrid technology

The Niro is filled with driver assistance and convenience technologies including available Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Lane Change Assist. Coasting Guide and Predictive Energy Control are also available in a Kia vehicle for the first time as part of the all-new Eco-DAS (Driver Assistance System). Coasting Guide helps maximize fuel economy by coaching the driver on when to coast and brake. Predictive Energy Control anticipates changes in road conditions to actively manage energy flow, seamlessly determining when it’s best to recharge the battery and when to use stored energy for optimum efficiency.

A Kia first

Niro is the first Kia to make use of an all-new dedicated eco-car platform and is an important next step to nearly tripling Kia’s global EcoDynamics lineup by 2020. Look for the 2017 Kia Niro at Kia of South Austin soon.
